According to the City of Sainte-Thérèse the population should be informed of the latest developments concerning the planned redevelopment of Saint Pierre Park. The municipal council investing in the renewal of equipment and offering a brand-new concept in this significant area of the district, as announced in 2017. The city calls for the community to participate so that this unifying project arouses pride shared by the whole community!
Project at Saint-Pierre school and collaboration with the CSSMI
The city considers its collaboration with the Center de services scolaire des Mille-Îles (CSSMI) essential, since Saint-Pierre Park is adjacent to the elementary school of the same name . In the spring of 2019, with a view to making this park even more accessible to young people as part of its redevelopment project, the City requested additional access to the park via rue Saint Pierre from the CSSMI.
At the time, the CSSMI was working on a study assessing the state of dilapidation of the school in order to determine the extent of the work to be carried out at Saint-Pierre school and on its grounds. It was therefore suggested that the city waited for the results of this analysis to carry out our park redevelopment project in order to ensure close coordination of our respective work.
The study is now complete. It recommends the replacement of the Saint-Pierre school and a request has been submitted to the Ministry of Education to this effect. The CSSMI hopes for a positive response soon for the financing of the project.
“It goes without saying that we would have liked to carry out this project before. However, we are making a responsible decision, namely that of aligning our work with those to come at Saint-Pierre school. In doing so, we will be able to validate beforehand the installations required for these two projects, and we will prevent the City and the CSSMI from having to resume work, thus eliminating additional costs”, said the mayoress of Sainte-Thérèse, Mrs. Sylvie Surprenant.
Citizen consultation and timeline
The citizens who frequent this neighborhood park, whose popularity is unabated, can be assured that it will be offered a real youth component. And to do this, the City reiterates its commitment to solicit the opinion of neighborhood residents and students of Saint-Pierre school in order to create a park that meets their needs more efficiently. It is still too early to establish a precise timetable for the consultation, design and execution of the works, but the Teresians will be informed in due course of the progress of the project.
